AVG 2012 - avgwdsvc.exe Kills CPU

Postby amykay91 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 5:24 pm

Running AVG 2012 Business. I have a workstation with the client installed where avgwdsvc.exe is sucking up all the cpu power.

I've read where this is often a problem at start up. But my difficulty starts after the workstation has been booted for a while. :?:

That's the AVG Watch Dog service - aka Resident Shield. It's monitoring files that are active for viruses. Sometimes certain programs pound on the hard disk with tons of read/writes which can have this effect with anti-virus programs. Try to pin down which program causes it by monitoring CPU usage. If you can figure it out, report it to AVG so the can address it. If you can't, you can try a complete un-install/re-install as linked below in my sig. Sometimes that resolves it.
