AVG Identity Protection messes with Firefox apps

Postby TheShadowFL » Mon Aug 01, 2011 3:09 pm

Just in the past 24 hours, (I think) I've noticed that when I open or refresh my iGoogle home page on Firefox, some of the apps like Date and Time and my Hamsters, either won't load at all or take many minutes to load.

In troubleshooting the problem, I was eventually directed back to AVG as the probable problem. So I started disabling AVG apps.
When I disabled the "Identity Protection" app, iGoogle started refreshing in one second, as it had before.

I'm guessing that something in a very recent AVG update has caused this problem.

Is there a fix coming for this, or do I need to leave my "Identity Protection" turned off permanently.???

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Try it again tomorrow - these things have a tendency to be resolved quickly. Maybe even a reboot would resolve it. ID protection is very important as it's AVG's primary malware remover.

Adendum:

In addition to my first post, I find that I also have to disable 'Link Scanner's Surf Shield',
in order to get my Firefox/Google home page apps to load properly.
If I have to disable any more apps, I'd just as well go back to AVG FREE, which WORKS!

Don't get me wrong, , , leaving AVG for some wannabe software, is NOT an option.
I've been an avid AVG user since the very early days.

Cheers Mates!

You can always do a repair installation to see if the plugin was just corrupted.
