SVCHOST UDP Port 1900 Blocked IPv6

Postby pbparker » Tue Aug 25, 2009 4:48 pm

I am evaluating AVG 8.5 Internet Security. I notice that the firewall consistenly blocks outbound UDP 1900 from SVCHOST.EXE to IPv6 ff02::c, which is the IPv6 Link Local Multicast for SSDP. This happens regardless of Profile. To test this, I deleted all custom profiles and set everything to Allow All profile. Even then, outbound UDP 1900 from local port 1900/local IP fe80::0100:7f:fffe to remote port 1900/remote IP ff02::c is always blocked.

This would appear to be a hard-coded block that can't be over-ridden.

No big deal, as IPv6 is not in my immediate future, and IPv4 SSDP works just fine with AVG 8.5 firewall. Just curious if anyone else sees this (and it is noise in the log files).

I haven't used the AVG firewall, but I've noticed problems with other firewalls and IPv6. It's one of the main reasons I still don't use IPv6 with customers, and even disable it on NICs.
