AVG 8.5 "no active components"

Postby thehumandynamo » Thu Nov 05, 2009 7:11 pm

I noticed this morning that my AVG was not active any longer, as I was notified by the Window's Security Center. In the overview tab, I am told there are no active components installed, and I am unable to update or scan using AVG. In addition, my registration code is not working when I tried to get online support via email (when I click continue, the input box goes red and the webpage is reloaded).

I am currently running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Laptop. I'm running a Pentium Dual Core CPU (t4200 @ 2ghz), 4gb of RAM, AVG Internet Security 8.5.4244, virus database version 270.14.50/2481.

I have already checked several recommendations from the following thread http://forums.avg.com/us-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=19397 (except for the gMer utilities). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you running AVG Free?

I do not believe so, this is a registered edition.

Open AVG and tell me what components are listed.

According to the overview in the User Interface, there are no active components (hence the reason for the post and the title it was posted under).

I asked what components there were, not which were active.

Under the components tab, all that is listed is "System Overview", which nothing happens when I click it (same as if I try to update or scan, there is no response).

Try downloading the latest version from www.avg.com/download and running a repair installation.

Use the removal tool to remove AVG: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools

Then install v9.

I successfully uninstalled 8.5, but when I did so, it erased my registration code (which I had not saved anywhere). How do I go about recovering that now?
