It would be nice if AVG would give a pop-up window (similar to the windows updates window) saying that your computer needs to be rebooted. Also, it would be nice to schedule the reboot for whenever you want. For example: I upgrade a server 1500 miles away at 11 a.m. to version 9.0 from 7.5 or 8.5. The server can only be rebooted at night. Instead of dialing into work at 11 p.m. to reboot the server, I could have scheduled it when I initiated the install.

This feature would also come in handy because users are oblivious to the yellow triangle in the system tray, especially if they auto-hide their taskbar.

I agree about the ability to do this from AVG, but you can always schedule a reboot using the windows task scheduler and the reboot command:

shutdown -r -t 01

That defeats the purpose of having a centralized management console, especially when you have over 1000 machines spread out over the entire United States.

You have a customer with over 1,000 machines but no uniform procedure for shutting down machines? What utility bills they must have!

We have multiple customers. When you have servers in a production environment along with workstations that need to access their databases at any given time, you can't exactly shut them down. All reboots for any kind of update must be scheduled. I would indeed hate to see their electric bills.

I am in the same situation that you are, but since we have so many things that update on the machine such as Windows and Office updates, the users reboot them regularly. In fact, most of my customers simply shut their machines down each night. You can script the remote shutdown via a login script. I agree that it would be a nice feature to have in AVG Admin, but I wouldn't count on it being added any time soon.

Our problem is our users are not computer savvy, office isn't installed and Windows updates are scheduled through our TAC on a private secure network. The only thing running on the remote computers is proprietary software used by special people who need to monitor activity 24/7. We really don't even need anti-virus software for the remote sites but it was part of the contract. There are several things I wish would be added to avg but no, I don't count on it any time soon if ever.

haha I didn't mean it that way. But now that you bring it up... I will give them credit though. These people are very intelligent and are not paid for their computer skills.
